Mapping Primary Health Care
Mapping Primary Health Care facilities based on the health facilities survey and other available data using GIS.
Project Overview
Smart Processes has implemented a vital initiative aimed at enhancing primary health care services through advanced Geographic Information System (GIS) technology. This project has played a crucial role in mapping and improving health care facilities across two key districts: Dibër and Fier. The project is founded by The Health for All Project (HAP) in Albania.
Project Objectives and Services
The project focused on several core objectives, aimed at leveraging GIS technology to improve health service delivery. Below are the primary goals and services provided throughout the project:
Implementation of GIS Software: Smart Processes successfully implemented and set up GIS software that incorporates comprehensive data regarding health centers in Dibër and Fier. This involved meticulous work on 79 health centers—34 in Diber and 45 in Fier. The process included a thorough review of existing documents and datasets, on-site visits to health centers, and collaborative meetings with key stakeholders, such as:
Directors of Public Health
Regional Directors of the Health Insurance Fund
Directors of Health Centers
The GIS software facilitates the mapping of vital data, including:
Health Center Locations: A precise dataset of the geographical locations of all health centers in the two districts.
Catchment Areas: Detailed information about the service areas for each health center, helping to identify the populations they serve.
Demographic Data: Comprehensive demographic information for each health center, providing insights into the populations that rely on these facilities.
Facility Conditions: Information regarding the equipment available and the physical condition of each health center, allowing for better resource allocation and planning.
Human Resources Data: An overview of the staffing at health centers, including the number of nurses and doctors available at each location.
Training for HAP Staff: A critical component of the project was the training of HAP staff in using the GIS software effectively. This included instruction on:
Editing and updating data within the system.
Reporting functionalities to ensure that staff can generate insightful reports based on the mapped data.
Best practices for utilizing GIS technology to enhance operational efficiency and improve health service delivery.
Impact on Primary Health Care
The implementation of the GIS mapping system has significantly enhanced the ability of health officials to visualize and analyze health care services in the Diber and Fier districts. By integrating comprehensive data into a user-friendly platform, Smart Processes has empowered local health authorities to make informed decisions that directly impact the quality and accessibility of health care services.
Future Implications
The success of the Health for All Project sets a precedent for the future use of technology in public health initiatives across Albania. The ability to map health facilities and analyze demographic data opens new avenues for targeted health interventions and resource management, ultimately leading to better health outcomes for the communities served.
Smart Processes is committed to advancing health care in Albania through innovative solutions and collaborative efforts. The Health for All Project stands as a testament to the effectiveness of integrating technology with public health initiatives. By mapping health care facilities and providing essential training, we are helping to build a stronger health care system that serves the needs of all citizens. Our ongoing dedication to improving health services reflects our mission to foster healthier communities throughout Albania.
